oh yeah
hey I match the match and that too
as parents we know the importance of
reading to our children we know the
importance of teaching them letters join
me and I'll show you a few ways that I
engage with letters with my children at
home
[Music]
find what dad but that's not what this
is right that's not why this so you
could see in the previous clip my
daughter using these letter cards to
match upper and lowercase letters so
this is a fantastic way to show children
the upper and then the lowercase letter
because lowercase letters are trickier
than their uppercase letters but was
four and a half so she's ready to start
engaging with some lowercase letters so
matching them somewhere is a fantastic
place to start you can even just write
it down have the uppercase letter and
then have them look for the lowercase
match you could write the letter there
if you wanted to or in Bo's case she's
ready to really look for that e on her
own and could match it there the other
thing I have these blocks these blocks
are great because they have I guess this
is an M they have the uppercase letter
they have the lowercase letter they also
have numbers which is great for moving
on eventually when we're doing some
numeracy and a couple of letters on the
block the blocks are repeated so I have
a set of 26 and so you could find
they could be matching the to uppercase
or if I've set myself up correctly here
here it is on another one there's the
lowercase match so it could be a game to
find the upper and lower case match or
if your child's still just working on
uppercase letters which they will told
their you know about four years old then
you can just be looking for the
uppercase matches again you can do this
with your magnet letters you could find
another uppercase e or you could find
the lowercase match finally you could
have your children make letters so I
think creating and working with their
hands is something our children love to
do it it's important so here I have just
a ball of clay and we've actually
created a T here we have oh we've
created the O popsicle sticks I mean
this is easy stuff that you have in your
home around you know you can create your
T
or you could be using your letter card
to show your child to remind them what
an L looks like l backwards maybe now
all of these items I have purchased at
the dollar store this was in an activity
book so I cut them out and laminated
them these were at a used clothing store
for children so there's there's lots of
materials around because letters are so
important I see them everywhere in
different ways I'll show you one more
these are the wooden letters I've spoke
about before and you can see my daughter
has colored that one in so again they're
creating with the materials you give
them as always in your book reading pull
out the letters talk about perhaps pick
a specific letter that you're going to
look for but these ideas with the
different material letters you have in
your home will help you get a little
more playful and help your children
engage hands-on with the letters in
their space
